Contacting the Canal & River Trust in an EMERGENCY
You are always be able to contact CRT between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. However, you may find that something happens which means that you urgently need to contact CRT. For calls of this nature CRT has a dedicated 24 hour emergency contact number.

If lives or property are at risk or there is danger of serious environmental contamination then contact this number immediately. Examples include:
- serious injury or a fatality
- a fire or explosion on a boat
- an inoperable lock or other structure for which there is no stoppage notification
- a boat trapped in a dangerous situation e.g. on a weir or in a lock
- serious flooding or a breech which risks lives or property
- serious pollution
This is a dedicated 24 hour emergency contact number. It’s manned for us by a branch of the Ambulance Service.
For other non-critical events you can call us between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday on 0303 040 4040 or email. If it’s out of hours, please wait until the next working day rather than contact the emergency number. Examples include:
- accidents and near misses
- low or high water levels
- reports of damage or vandalism
- reports of fly tipping or animal carcasses
- reports of unlicensed or speeding boats
- inoperable water point, pump-out or other service facility
